Eighty three people enjoyed the inspiring presentations by Randall Clinch, creator of the Attitude by Choice Program, and programs offered by Debbie Stewart, Connie Berry, Barbara Spears-Corbett, Claire Valier, and Lisa Paez, in Broward County May 19 and Palm Beach County May 20. The topics included: Developing independent learners, virtual community schools, CASAS assessments, working with culturally diverse students, and Dare to Dream. Plans are already underway to expand the offerings this Fall, 2005.

The events are co-sponsored by Region V Adult Literacy Center and Region V Professional Development Council.

 Overview

Region V Professional Development Council was created to increase the capacity of Florida's adult education system and its regional personnel; to innovate, apply new ideas, and enhance the effectiveness of professional development for adult educators, community educators, and career, technical and high performing workplace educators.

The Council, a voluntary advisory body, employs a regionally driven participatory approach to needs assessment, planning and implementation of the professional development system for adult and community education instructors, vocational education teachers, and community education teachers and  in Region V.

Created by Staff of Region V PDC at Florida Atlantic University. Funds for this project were provided through a Section 231 grant awarded by the Division of Community Colleges and Workforce Education, Florida Department of Education.  These funds were part of the Adult Education and Family Literacy Act of 1998.  Supports Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 [P.L. 88-352] which prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, or national origin;  Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, as amended [20 U.S.C. 1681-1683 and 1685-1686] which prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex. Section 504 of the Rehabilitative Act of 1973, as amended [29 U.S.C. 794], which prohibits discrimination on the basis of handicaps; and  The Age Discrimination Act of 1975, as amended [42 U.S.C. 6101-6107], which prohibits discrimination on the basis of age.
