for Fall 2004-Spring 2005 Accomplishments for Region V Professional Development Council Adult Education May, 2005 Collaborative program meetings have been ongoing with the Region V Adult Literacy Center, the Region V Professional Development Council for Adult education and the Region V Professional Development Council for Career and Technical Education regarding a May 19 for Broward County and May 20 training for Palm Beach County. (See Flyer) March, 2005 FCAT training was provided in Math for Palm Beach County by Bob Sharpton at the Forest Hill Community School on March 28 (8 participants); March 29 (9 participants), March 30 (8 participants) and March 31 (8 participants). (See Flyer) FCAT training was provided in CRISS Reading for Palm Beach County at the Forest Hill Community School on March 28 (21 participants), March 29 (21 participants), and March 30 (21 participants) from 4:30-8:30 PM each day. Region V Professional Development Council co-sponsored and provided trainers for Broward County Library - Each One Teach One Program Saturday March 19, 2005 at the Stirling Road Branch, Hollywood, FL from 9:30-3:00. Jo Ann Laskin served as speaker and Marica Mitchell served as facilitator. Evaluation of the session has been compiled. (See Flyer) Another event is scheduled for Saturday, May 21, 2005, 9:30 – 3:00 p.m., at the African-American Research Library, 2650 Sistrunk Blvd, Fort Lauderdale, Fl 33311. (See Flyer) March 18, 2005, Region V Professional Development Council showcased Dr. Sharan Merriam at Florida Atlantic University Jupiter campus on March 18, 2005, for 37 attendees. Evaluation of the session has been compiled. Dr. Merriam is one of the most-published authors and most respected scholars in the field of adult education. Her ground-breaking work in the areas of philosophical foundations, adult learning and development, and qualitative research methods have been widely acclaimed. Currently, she is a Professor of Adult Education at the University of Georgia and is sought after worldwide as a speaker and consultant. (See Flyer) January, 2005 By January 29, 2005, online certificates have been provided to 33 participants. More certificates are anticipated by June 30, 2005. January 29, 2005, Region V Professional Development Council co-sponsored with Palm Beach County Schools for the Palm Beach County Adult Education Mini Conference at Boynton Beach High School for 137 participants. Evaluation of the session has been compiled. Region V Professional Development Council co-sponsored and provided trainers for Broward County Library - Each One Teach One Program, Volunteer In-Service Workshop at the Jan Moran Collier City Library on January 29th, 2005. Jo Ann Laskin and Marica Mitchell served as speakers and facilitators. Evaluation of the session has been compiled. December, 2004 December 7, 2004 Region V PDC meeting was held as a teleconference. Minutes of the meeting are available at http://www.adulteducation.fau.edu/regionv/region_v_meeting_minutes.htm September, 2004 The graduate course ADE 6184: Program and Curriculum Development for Adults was offered as a service to ACE of Florida Conference. Eight (8) graduate students under the tutelage of Dr. Rochelle Kenyon received both onsite and online instruction to addressed certificate requirements at the state level in adult education. Florida Atlantic University Professional Development Team Director, Dr. Abby Oliver, Region V PDC Adult Education Technical Support Institution Director, Dr. Valerie Bryan, and ACE of Florida Executive Director, Ms. Valorie Boyd assisted in the offering of this course. August-September, 2004 Initially planning held for a series of train-the-trainer meetings in cooperation with the South Florida Center for Educational Leaders and Region V Professional Development Joint Councils. Sessions designed to be offered on multiple dates to accommodate various districts.

Brief narratives of some events June, 2004 Final report submitted to DOE of accomplishments. See PowerPoint and text format. Region V PDC Adult Education Council provided training materials for FCAT and CRISS related workshops for Broward County and Palm Beach Counties in both May and June. May, 2004 Miami-Dade College Research-Based Reading Strategies For ESOL 1 Students was planned as a joint sponsored activity for Region V PDC Adult Education and the Miami-Dade College. Sixteen (16) participants were involved. Contact Barbara Alfonso for a critique of event of the May 28, 2004 event. Region V PDC teleconference meeting for May 27, 2004. See agenda and minutes at http://www.adulteducation.fau.edu/regionv/region_v_meeting_minutes.htm Region V PDC Adult Education Council is provided trainers and training materials for FCAT Math and CRISS Reading in Palm Beach county at Boynton Beach Community High School. Eighteen hours of training are scheduled training was conducted May 11 (13 participants), 12 (14 participants), 13 (11 participants) and May 18(12 participants), 19 (10 participants), 20 (9 participants) for FCAT Math and 15 hours of CRISS Reading is being offered from May 24 (7 participants), May 25 (10 participants), May 26 (12 participants), and May 27(10 participants). Training offered creative strategies to empower adult learners in meeting goals prescribed through FCAT in both these area. Materials was provided for training by Region V PDC. Trainers were certified at the state level for this important training. April, 2004 Region V PDC Council sponsored training at two locations from 6:45-8:45 PM in Palm Beach County on April 22, 2004 for their PDD @ Night. One hundred and fifty-four (154 Participants) participants at two sites, Adult Education Center and Lake Worth Community High School. Region V PDC provided trainers in technology training in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, and Word at both locations and Who Moved My Cheese certified training and Teaching ESOL through Arts and Craft Scrapbook Activities (a "best practice") at two separate location. Region V PDC Adult Education Council provided space for Florida DOE Division of Community Colleges and Workforce Education 2004-05 Drive-In Workshop. (36 Participants) Event was held at the Live Oak Pavilion on the Florida Atlantic University campus in Boca Raton from 9:00 AM-4:00 PM. Morning session address Perkins funding and the New Green Book guidelines. Afternoon session addressed the Adult Education and Family Literacy Funding, the new reporting procedures and forms (National Reporting System and State Web-based Reporting), and the Farmworker Jobs and Education Programs. Continued refinement of online tutorials to service part-time and full time adult and community educators in Florida.
